Ruby Bridges

Ruby Bridges was born in Mississippi in 1954. She grew up on a farm during hard times and her dad heard that there were better living opportunities in the city so they moved there. Under federal court order, New Orleans public schools were forced to desegregate. In 1960 the black kindergarteners in the city took a test to see if they would be move to a white school and Ruby passed. When she arrived there was an angry mob there yelling, but she was protected by the state marshals. When she got into the school all of the white parents took their kids out and ruby was the only one in the school. finally as the school year progressed more and more of the kids started coming back until the class was back to it's normal number.
